Week 21 of 52

Read to the boys every day.

Every day except one late work night.  Dooby Dooby Moo has been the big favorite this week.

Read 25 books (19/25) (not related to above)

Still listening to Claire Dewitt and the City of the Dead which I’m still loving. Still reading The Girls, and still waiting for Alexander Hamilton to be available again.

Reduce debt to 45% of credit available (the amount of debt I’m carrying is my biggest stressor)

Oh guys, this year has been bad. I’m so stressed about money. Always.

Get a mammogram

I had to change my appointment, for two weeks from now.

Go to the gym 30 times (18/30)

I went on a week day! I’ve negotiated one day a week where I leave the house super early and Seth does the entire morning routine so I can go to the gym. It fucking sucks. I hate getting ready at the gym. I do, however, like getting my steps in so early in the day.

I also went on Saturday and Sunday and tried the eliptical machine. I used to love it and I forgot how fun it is, it seems like such a better work out than the treadmill. I feel like I’ll probably switch to it if I can make it to the gym three times a week.

15 minutes of standing for every hour sitting at work

I’m not sure how much I stood this week, I lost my post it, but I know it was about 6 hours total.

Floss every day

Missed a couple.

Eat vegetables one time a week (21/52)

Smoothie for breakfast, carrots for snack. So many carrots.

Break phone addiction (phone off at 10pm at night and away when I’m not taking pictures or checking email at home)

Get this, I talk on the phone on my way home to work to actual real life friends. How fucking weird is that?  I think that contact has helped me cut my twitter and Facebook exposure down to a minimum. And I don’t really miss it.

Get acupuncture 5 times (1/5)

Nothing new to report.

Go on 10 dates with Seth (6/10)

Nada.

Go away without the kids with Seth

Nope.

100 acts of resistance (40/100)

I have been so down. I feel hopeless. The Hillary piece in New York Magazine made me sad all over again.

Week 20 of 52

Week 20! Wow, I’m kind of surprised how fast this year is going. It seems to slog right on by.

Read to the boys every day.

I missed one day because of a late night at work. We went to the library on Saturday and got some new Rotten Ralph books. They delight the boys. I enjoy them as well. One was missing the last 1o pages, so Moses and I wrote a note to the librarian. I’ll try to upload it to Insta soon.

Read 25 books (19/25) (not related to above)

I’m in a major rut.  But I just started Claire Dewitt and the City of the Dead which I’m loving. Still reading The Girls, and had to put Alexander Hamilton on request again because, damn 29 hours is a long book.

Reduce debt to 45% of credit available (the amount of debt I’m carrying is my biggest stressor)

BLERG.

Get a mammogram

Next week I’ll finally be able to check this off.

Go to the gym 30 times (15/30)

Two days! In a row! Which is feeling pretty ouchie right now. I’ve got to figure out how to get to the gym during the week.

Eat vegetables one time a week (20/52)

Yep. Back on the smoothie train. It’s seriously the only way I reliably get veggies.

Break phone addiction (phone off at 10pm at night and away when I’m not taking pictures or checking email at home)

Actually, I’m feeling like I’m on my phone less.  Especially at home.

Get acupuncture 5 times (1/5)

Go on 10 dates with Seth (6/10)

Nada.

Go away without the kids with Seth

Nope.

Does thinking really mean thoughts about Trump count? Because I did a fuck load of that this week.

Week 19 of 52

What a hellish week last week. Moses had a nasty stomach bug, Manny had a one day fever with hives and I had — stress. My OB changed up my meds on Friday in an effort to help with some stuff I’m going through and after crying for 15 minutes while sitting in a paper gown she recommended therapy and exercise.  She wrote my exercise prescription officially on a prescription pad, so I have to do it.

Read to the boys every day.

Oh man, I miss the kids. With Moses sick and me working like a lunatic this fell off dramatically. I managed maybe two nights?

Read 25 books (19/25) (not related to above)

I’m in a major rut.  Still reading The Girls, and  Alexander Hamilton.

BLERG.

Get a mammogram

I had my annual exam and an appointment for a mammogram!

Go to the gym 30 times (13/30)

Mother’s Day I got 17k steps. I went to the gym AND we went on a hike at Will Rogers State Park. If you’re in the LA area, you should check this park out. Great hiking trails, beautiful grassy area to picnic or play frisbee and they have polo on the weekends!

Week 18 of 52

Read to the boys every day.

The new job has had me working late a few days, so I missed a couple nights.  The big favorites this week were The Adventures of Beekle: The Unimaginary Friend and Last Stop on Market Street.

Read 25 books (19/25) (not related to above)

I finished Sharp Objects, it was slightly predictable, but still great. Still reading The Girls, and  Alexander Hamilton.

Reduce debt to 45% of credit available (the amount of debt I’m carrying is my biggest stressor)

BLERG.

Get a mammogram

I remade my appointment for my annual, so I can get my referral for my mammogram, but I couldn’t get in until May.  So this is at least progress.

Go to the gym 30 times (12/30)

Nothing. For three weeks. I’m suffering from a really shitty cold that has landed in my lungs again and I have PTSD from last winter when I coughed for about 3 months straight. So I’m trying to rest.

Week 16 and 17 of 52

Read to the boys every day.

I missed several days because of my trip to the desert. But the boys were really into Anansi: The Spider and There Was an Old Dragon Who Swallowed a Knight.

Read 25 books (18/25) (not related to above)

Still reading The Girls, and since I was back in the queue for  Alexander Hamilton I listened to The Woman in Cabin 10 and In a Dark, Dark Wood, I liked both of them for what they were, mysteries with a female lead that were slightly easy to figure out. I’m currently listening to Sharp Objects and I don’t know, the reader is kind of annoying, and listening to sex scenes while I’m driving to work is kind of awkward, but whatever, I’m liking the story a lot.

Reduce debt to 45% of credit available (the amount of debt I’m carrying is my biggest stressor)

BLERG.

Get a mammogram

I just remade my appointment for my annual, so I can get my referral for my mammogram, but I couldn’t get in until May.  So this is at least progress.

Go to the gym 30 times (12/30)

Nothing. For two weeks!  New job is mere blocks away from my gym, but I am so busy at work and work late every night, I haven’t had a chance.

15 minutes of standing for every hour sitting at work

I did a crappy job of this. But I vow this coming week, I’ll stand every day.

Floss every day

Well. I forgot my floss when I went to the desert and when I came home I was so tired every night I couldn’t get into it.  But I flossed this weekend both days, and my gums didn’t bleed so I guess I didn’t ruin everything.

Eat vegetables one time a week (16/52)

Just barely made this happen. Smoothies back in effect this week.

Break phone addiction (phone off at 10pm at night and away when I’m not taking pictures or checking email at home)

Week 15 of 52

Read to the boys every day.

I went to the library on Monday and got Spike the Mixed Up Monster (hit),  When Dinosaurs Come With Everything (hit), Crankenstein (not a big hit), Click Clack Moo (probably the biggest hit), and Edwina The Dinosaur that Didn’t Know She Was Extinct (minor hit). Manny also pulled Harriet’s Had Enough off the shelf, which is a super sweet book that I love to read to the boys.

Read 25 books (16/25) (not related to above)

I finished Devil in the White City and wow, it is fascinating, creepy, and so well researched. Still reading The Girls, and just started Alexander Hamilton on audio (read by the same guy who read Devil in the White City, so that’s some nice synergy. I also have the book, which is good because it’s over 30 hours long and I have only 3 days left on my loan and can’t renew it, so I’ll have to go to the back of the line again.)

Reduce debt to 45% of credit available (the amount of debt I’m carrying is my biggest stressor)

Well, I got a new job and a promotion and a raise and I start tomorrow. So, hopefully that will help!

Get a mammogram

I just remade my appointment for my annual, so I can get my referral for my mammogram, but I couldn’t get in until May.  So this is at least progress.

Go to the gym 30 times (12/30)

I went to the gym today and yesterday I walked with the kids to the park, so I’m feeling pretty good about my weekend activity levels.

15 minutes of standing for every hour sitting at work

I read this Washington Post article on Monday about how long you should aim for standing at work.  Three things stood out to me (ha). 1. You should do a minimum of 30 minutes of moderate to intense activity 5 times a week. 2. You should stand at LEAST 2 hours for every 8 you’re sitting and work up to 4 hours for every 8. 3. After 30 minutes of sitting your metabolism slows NINETY percent. That last one, damn. No wonder it’s next to impossible to lose weight if you’re an office worker even if you’re only eating minimal calories.

Monday – 2 hours 15 minutes

Tuesday – 2 hours 15 minutes

Wednesday – 2 hours 18 minutes

Thursday – Nothing

Friday – Nothing

My foot started hurting Wednesday night and I wanted to rest it Thursday and Friday so I wouldn’t have issues going to the gym and it worked.

Floss every day

I missed Tuesday night because I was like, FLOSS IS NOT THE BOSS OF ME. Mature. Same on Friday night.

Eat vegetables one time a week (15/52)

Does lettuce on my hamburger count? I mean, I ate more veggies than that, but not much more.

Break phone addiction (phone off at 10pm at night and away when I’m not taking pictures or checking email at home)

I don’t know, guys. I might need to do more than just delete Facebook and Twitter off my phone. I might also need to delete all the Candy Crushes…

Week 14 of 52

Read to the boys every day.

No, David, and The Mystery of the Missing Peanuts were faves this week and we went on a field trip to The Last Bookstore in downtown LA. If you are a book lover, and live anywhere near, get thee to there. It’s fantastic. The boys were allowed to pick out a book each and both chose comic books. Moses picked a Ninja Turtle comic and Manny a comic called Moongirl and Devil Dinosaur (Non-white main character and a dinosaur, good job, Manny!). I really wanted to say no when I saw the price ($17.99. EACH.) but I feel like books are the one place I cannot put limits. When we got home, they asked me to read their comic books and my love for my children superseded my hate for reading comic books and wow, that was painful. And we only read a few pages each.

Read 25 books (15/25) (not related to above)

I was a little sidetracked by S Town, but I binged it in 3 days and damn. It’s amazing. But! As for reading, I started Devil in the White City, which I have been wanting to read for a long time and already I’m hooked. I started The Girls, another one I’ve heard great things about and can’t wait to really get into. Am I still reading Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen on my phone? Um, not really. My loan expired, and I might go back to it, but probably not. It’s great, just maybe not for me.

Reduce debt to 45% of credit available (the amount of debt I’m carrying is my biggest stressor)

This week we had to let go of our nanny, thankfully she got a job with another family right away, so I didn’t have to have that guilt on me as well. I also took care of some medical bills that had gotten a little… ripe and yeah, my credit cards remain shitty.

This is just going to sit here and mock me all year, isn’t it.

Go to the gym 30 times (11/30)

I managed to go on Saturday and it hurt. It’s been too long.

Eat vegetables one time a week (14/52)

I wonder if I’m the only adult that has to force herself to eat vegetables at least once a week? Because there was a point this week, maybe Wednesday? Where I was like, damnit! I need to eat vegetables.

Break phone addiction (phone off at 10pm at night and away when I’m not taking pictures or checking email at home)

I’m actually doing really well with this, but the binge of S Town put me with my phone for 7 hours and I need to get it back on the charger at 10pm at night again.

Week 13 of 52

Read to the boys every day.

I missed one night to go out with my co-workers from my last job. The Cat in the Hat Comes Back and The Value of Believing in Yourself (Louis Pasteur) are the favorites this week.  I LOVE that they call the Louis Pasteur book “the scientist book” and I love that they like the story. The Cat in the Hat Comes Back is a sequel that doesn’t hold a candle to the original, but whatever, they love it.

Read 25 books (15/25) (not related to above)

I finished Ghettoside on audio and it is heart wrenching. I also finished Dreams of Gods and Monsters, and I liked it, but I felt like it strayed from the things I liked about the first two in a weird way.  I’m still reading Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen on my phone, but I’ve lost steam on it big time.

Week 12 of 52

Read to the boys every day.

I went to the library to pick up my hold for the second book in The Raven Boys series and got some books for the boys. Moses liked the “lesson books” Llama Llama Time to Share and Llama Llama and the Bully Goat, or maybe he just liked that he figured out they were “lesson books.” We also got Dinosaurs in Disguise which was a hit because, duh, dinosaurs, Bread and Jam for Francis (not a hit) and You Can Do It, Bert!, which had Moses and Manny literally rolling on the floor laughing. We had dinner with our friend from Boston and he brought three darling books for the boys,  Leo: A Ghost Story, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to School, and Stuck. Ironically (?) that was the one night I couldn’t read to them because I was out at dinner while our lovely nanny had to try to get those rascals to bed.

Read 25 books (13/25) (not related to above)

I finished A Great and Terrible Beauty on audio, and started Rogue Lawyer by John Grisham and hated it so much I quit after about two hours of listening time. So I started and finished listening to Animal Farm (it’s a very quick listen) and started Ghettoside on audio. I also started book three of the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series, Dreams of Gods and Monsters, and I’m going to be so sad when I’m done with this trilogy. I’m also reading Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen (another digital item I learned how to check out from the library, woo!) on my phone when I’m trying to get Manny to sleep and really enjoying it. I’m not sure if he has a ghost writer, but it’s really well written and I like the style a lot.

Week 11 of 52

Read to the boys every day.

The book fair was at school last week for the boys. They brought home 3 books each but only Aliens Love Dinopants seems to have made an impression. God, I loved the book fair as a kid. The other one in heavy rotation this week was a Disney’s Wonderful World of Reading book from when I was a kid, Goofy and the Miller, which… I don’t understand the message of at all. Goofy and two goof offs work at this mill.  Goofy does ALL the work and the two goof offs just smoke cigarettes and gamble. The miller decides he wants to retire and says that whomever of the three bring him the best horse gets the mill! Goofy winds up in the woods and helps an old lady do shit like cut wood, then he’s like, “Later, old lady, I gotta find a horse,” and the old lady’s like, I’ll get you a horse just wait three days. And he agrees! The goof offs bring good horses and the miller is torn, but agrees to wait three days for Goofy’s offering.  And low and behold, three days later a princess arrives and it was the old lady and the horse she brings is the best! He broke the spell that was cast over her. So he gets the mill! But then the princess says, or you can just come be with me, boo, and he does. And then the two goof offs have to work to prove which one should get the mill. But we don’t get any resolution to that. We just know that now Goofy is banging a human princess. The kids like it.

Read 25 books (11/25) (not related to above)

Still listening to A Great and Terrible Beauty on audio, and I figured out how to check out audio books from the library and get them downloaded right to my phone! That is probably not new information for other people, but for me it’s revolutionary! Next up is Rogue Lawyer by John Grisham. I love me a good mystery when I’m driving.  Just finished Days of Blood and Starlight I feel like a fair amount of the reviews I read said they didn’t like it as much as the first, but I think I liked it better. Book three, Dreams of Gods and Monsters, is waiting on my bedside.
