Week 11 of 52

Read to the boys every day.

The book fair was at school last week for the boys. They brought home 3 books each but only Aliens Love Dinopants seems to have made an impression. God, I loved the book fair as a kid. The other one in heavy rotation this week was a Disney’s Wonderful World of Reading book from when I was a kid, Goofy and the Miller, which… I don’t understand the message of at all. Goofy and two goof offs work at this mill.  Goofy does ALL the work and the two goof offs just smoke cigarettes and gamble. The miller decides he wants to retire and says that whomever of the three bring him the best horse gets the mill! Goofy winds up in the woods and helps an old lady do shit like cut wood, then he’s like, “Later, old lady, I gotta find a horse,” and the old lady’s like, I’ll get you a horse just wait three days. And he agrees! The goof offs bring good horses and the miller is torn, but agrees to wait three days for Goofy’s offering.  And low and behold, three days later a princess arrives and it was the old lady and the horse she brings is the best! He broke the spell that was cast over her. So he gets the mill! But then the princess says, or you can just come be with me, boo, and he does. And then the two goof offs have to work to prove which one should get the mill. But we don’t get any resolution to that. We just know that now Goofy is banging a human princess. The kids like it.

Read 25 books (11/25) (not related to above)

Still listening to A Great and Terrible Beauty on audio, and I figured out how to check out audio books from the library and get them downloaded right to my phone! That is probably not new information for other people, but for me it’s revolutionary! Next up is Rogue Lawyer by John Grisham. I love me a good mystery when I’m driving.  Just finished Days of Blood and Starlight I feel like a fair amount of the reviews I read said they didn’t like it as much as the first, but I think I liked it better. Book three, Dreams of Gods and Monsters, is waiting on my bedside.

Reduce debt to 45% of credit available (the amount of debt I’m carrying is my biggest stressor)

UGH.

Get a mammogram

This is just going to sit here and mock me all year, isn’t it.

Go to the gym 30 times (10/30)

Managed to get to the gym on Sunday. I have a real love hate relationship with the treadmill, but mostly I love it.

15 minutes of standing for every hour sitting at work

I’ll be able to start up again on Monday! (Provided I can get my desk into my office…)

Floss every day

Floss, floss, floss.

Eat vegetables one time a week (11/52)

I’m really off my smoothie game, but have been eating vegetables with lunch. However, lunch out is starting to be too big a budget item and I’ll need to scale back on that. Hopefully next week I can do some smoothies and lunch salads.

Break phone addiction (phone off at 10pm at night and away when I’m not taking pictures or checking email at home)

Hmmm.  I don’t know, maybe I need to delete twitter and facebook from my phone.

Get acupuncture 5 times (1/5)

Nothing new to report.

Go on 10 dates with Seth (5/10)

Nada.

Go away without the kids with Seth

Nope.

Week 10 of 52

Read to the boys every day.

I missed Saturday night. This week we read Goofy Minds the House a lot and these Blank learns to Blank books a lot. I like to change the names to the boys names but it makes them really mad even though it’s true, they DO need to learn to listen, share, say please, and help.

Read 25 books (10/25) (not related to above)

I finished The Raven Boys, I’m so glad I did! It really picks up about 100 pages in, which is a lot for me to give a book, but I liked the characters when I could remember who was who and really wanted to know what was going to happen, so I forged ahead. I will read all of the sequels for sure.  Still listening to  A Great and Terrible Beauty on audio. And I started the sequel to the Daughter of Smoke and Bone called Days of Blood and Starlight. (I really wish these YA authors would give these easier titles to remember…)

Reduce debt to 45% of credit available (the amount of debt I’m carrying is my biggest stressor)

I started working a few days earlier than expected, but some things have come up financially that are going to make this difficult to come close to addressing maybe until June. Maybe not until next year.

Get a mammogram

This is just going to sit here and mock me all year, isn’t it.

Go to the gym 30 times (9/30)

I went two times this week, but then started working. I wanted to go this weekend, but Seth has been sick and I couldn’t get away.

15 minutes of standing for every hour sitting at work

I started working! Yay! But it’s not going to be until the 20th, when the boys don’t have school, that I’ll be able to get my standing desk in to work.

Floss every day

Floss, floss, floss.

Eat vegetables one time a week (10/52)

I think I only had one smoothie this week, but I did eat veggies at lunch (seaweed salad with my poke bowl, woo!

Break phone addiction (phone off at 10pm at night and away when I’m not taking pictures or checking email at home)

I subscribe to the Make America Read Again newsletter (which is fantastic, and you should subscribe) and she linked to this article. The main takeaway for me was, instead of scrolling through twitter and Facebook in the morning, curl up with your book. So, I tried that. And hey, I finished another book this week!

Get acupuncture 5 times (1/5)

Nothing new to report

Go on 10 dates with Seth (5/10)

We went to dinner on Tuesday before my job started and that might be the last time we do that for a while.

Go away without the kids with Seth

We were here. Together. Not away.

100 acts of resistance (28/100)

1-26 can be found here.

I am dealing with some depression stuff and that makes it really hard for me to talk to people on the phone, I did however vote along with 11.45% of Los Angelenos in the special election on Tuesday. (How pathetic is that number. It’s embarrassing.)

27. Called Sen. Harris office to tell them I agree with her calling for AG Sessions’ resignation.

28. Voted in Special Election.

Week 9 of 52

Are you guys sick of this? Sorry, I’m not. I actually look forward to it every week now.

Read to the boys every day.

Every dang day. The boys are super into The Aristocats (it’s my OLD copy) but it’s missing the last few pages and I need to buy a new copy but it seems silly for a book they’ll probably not want to read again next week. We also read Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs a few times and I tried to get them to watch the movie with me, but it was WAY too different for Moses and he got scared and now Manny is obsessed with the mother dying. Animated movies sure love to kill the mommies.

Read 25 books (9/25) (not related to above)

I didn’t finish anything this week. I started The Raven Boys and I’m having a hard time remembering the characters, something about generic dude names really makes it hard for me. I also started A Great and Terrible Beauty on audio, and I’m loving it, but I think I’d rather read it, but I can’t read and treadmill so… there you go.

Reduce debt to 45% of credit available (the amount of debt I’m carrying is my biggest stressor)

Yeah, nothing new this week.

Get a mammogram

This is just going to sit here and mock me all year, isn’t it.

Go to the gym 30 times (7/30)

I went three times this week!

15 minutes of standing for every hour sitting at work

Still not working. 1 more week and I just realized I have a logistical nightmare of trying to get my standing desk to work because I take the kids to school every morning and it doesn’t fit in my car without the back seat down, etc boring bullshit…

Floss every day

Floss, floss, floss.

Eat vegetables one time a week (9/52)

Smoothies 4 LYFE.

Break phone addiction (phone off at 10pm at night and away when I’m not taking pictures or checking email at home)

You guys.

Get acupuncture 5 times (1/5)

I had to cancel my appointment for Saturday because I’m broke as a joke.

Go on 10 dates with Seth (4/10)

We didn’t go out at all this week on our own, but we did have dinner with our friends from DC.

Go away without the kids with Seth

We were here. Together. Not away.

100 acts of resistance (27/100)

1-26 can be found here.

I only managed one call this week, I am feeling super depressed these days, not working, our financial situation and our show probably not going has me down in the dumps. BUT, I did make a call, so there’s something.

27. Called Sen. Harris office to tell them I agree with her calling for AG Sessions’ resignation.

Week 8 of 52

Read to the boys every day.

I missed one day because I went out for drinks with co-workers. This week’s favorites were Over the River and Through the Wood and Night Animals.

Read 25 books (9/25) (not related to above)

I finished Feed and Daughter of Smoke and Bone. So, I liked Feed, but it was a little too close to home for my personal science fiction reading during the current state of affairs preference. Daughter of Smoke and Bone, OH MY GOD. I wanted it to last forever, but also wanted to know what happens and there are two more and I immediately requested them from the library

Reduce debt to 45% of credit available (the amount of debt I’m carrying is my biggest stressor)

Yeah, nothing new this week.

Get a mammogram

This is just going to sit here and mock me all year, isn’t it.

Go to the gym 30 times (4/30)

One time! I’m done beating myself up for only making it one time. I think.

15 minutes of standing for every hour sitting at work

Still not working. 2 more weeks.

Floss every day

Floss, floss, floss. I missed one day because I went out for drinks and got home kind of drunk and didn’t give af. I flossed in the morning reflexively. I might have made a new habit, guys!

Eat vegetables one time a week (8/52)

Smoothies 4 LYFE.

Break phone addiction (phone off at 10pm at night and away when I’m not taking pictures or checking email at home)

You guys.

Get acupuncture 5 times (1/5)

We went for an afternoon walk AND a cocktail on Friday and it was very nice.

Go away without the kids with Seth

We were here. Together. Not away.

100 acts of resistance (26/100)

So, this year so far I’ve:

  1. Marched in the Women’s March in LA
  2. Donated money to an artist creating resistance artwork
  3. Called my Congressman, Ted Lieu, to thank him for boycotting the election
  4. Signed up for Swing Left to volunteer for CA-25 get out the vote activities

Week 7 of 52

Another week of unemployment. I have been doing a lot of sitting, which is terrible. Also, I’ve rediscovered my love for peanut butter on a toasted bagel and yeah, I need to start working again. I also kind of have an addiction to Civ V. It’s fine. I can quit anytime.

Read to the boys every day.

We managed to read every day again this week. We got some new books from the library and from a Scholastic order. Favorites were Pumpkinhead, Dragons Love Tacos, and Gaston.

Read 25 books (7/25) (not related to above)

I finished The Day of the Locust and that was not the optimistic view of Hollywood I needed. It’s a great book, and on the Modern Library’s Top 100 Novels list. I looked over that list to see what else I wanted to read and I just feel like maybe I’ve read enough novels by old, dead white dudes for right now.

Reduce debt to 45% of credit available (the amount of debt I’m carrying is my biggest stressor)

Yeah, nothing new this week.

Get a mammogram

This is just going to sit here and mock me all year, isn’t it.

Go to the gym 30 times (3/30)

Still only made it one time this week, but hey, that’s more than no times. It does not however offset the peanut butter bagel situation, so this week I’m planning on taking the boys to class wearing my gym clothes, so that I HAVE to go in the morning and get it knocked off the list.

15 minutes of standing for every hour sitting at work

Still not working. 3 more weeks.

Get my teeth cleaned (DONE – February 15)

Yes! I got this done. I called for an appointment on Tuesday and they had an opening the next day, so I took it.  Surprise cleaning! Also, ow.

Floss every day

Floss, floss, floss.

Eat vegetables one time a week (7/52)

Smoothies 4 LYFE.

Break phone addiction (phone off at 10pm at night and away when I’m not taking pictures or checking email at home)

I think I almost managed the phone off at 10pm once, but then I caved.

Get acupuncture 5 times (1/5)

Nothing new to report here.

Go on 10 dates with Seth (3/10)

We actually had a date on Valentine’s Day. How cliche!

Go away without the kids with Seth

We were here. Together. Not away.

Week 6 of 52

Read to the boys every day.

I missed a couple of nights because the children were driving me bonkers, but made up for it by reading Lucky Puppy six hundred thousand times (approximate). Also Go, Dog, Go.

Read 25 books (6/25) (not related to above)

Hoo boy, I finished Strangers in Their Own Land and I am stunned. I don’t know how to process a lot of what the Tea Party believes, particularly those in Louisiana so incredibly harmed by deregulation, Big Oil and Big Chemical. I’m ready for a really light read, right about now.

Reduce debt to 45% of credit available (the amount of debt I’m carrying is my biggest stressor)

Well… that ground to a righteous halt when I found out my job got pushed a month. I’m going to be draining my meager savings just to stay afloat. UGH.

30 days of face care in a row (30/30)

DONE!

Get a mammogram

This is just going to sit here and mock me all year, isn’t it.

Go to the gym 30 times (2/30)

I am unemployed, so you’d think I’d have all the time in the world to go to the gym, which I do, however, I still only made it one time.

15 minutes of standing for every hour sitting at work

Not working

Get my teeth cleaned

Nope.

Floss every day

I missed a day, but yeah, floss floss floss.

Week 5 of 52

Read to the boys every day.

I think I only missed one day. Favorite this week was Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson.

Read 25 books (5/25) (not related to above)

I finished March Book 1 and read Hamilton: The Revolution this week. March is fantastic and I recommend it.  Hamilton… Oh man, if you love the musical you probably have already read it. If you’re unaware of the musical/haven’t had a chance to listen to it, I’d urge you to read this as soon as you’ve listened to it. If you are a creative person (writer, artist, etc) this book provides a ton of insight on the creative process and I just loved the liner notes. HIGHLY recommend.

Reduce debt to 45% of credit available (the amount of debt I’m carrying is my biggest stressor)

We got a payment from our film distributor for Dark Mountain. If we get 4 more of those (they come quarterly) we’ll finally have paid off all of our investors and can start paying back deferments to our crew. The little check I got (I am an investor) went to the boys’ school and an extra payment to my highest balance card. So that was nice.

30 days of face care in a row (30/30)

DONE! To be honest when I was making sure I drank enough water and got enough sleep and exercise I saw more of a difference than when I was just washing and moisturizing.

Get a mammogram

This is just going to sit here and mock me all year, isn’t it.

Go to the gym 30 times (1/30)

Ha. HAHAHA. I’m off this week so hopefully I’ll get there. We did go hiking yesterday with the boys, so at least we were active? On one day?

15 minutes of standing for every hour sitting at work

I did this for two days. And I have to go in and pick up my desk on Monday (I have the VariDesk and I love it, but I got the GIGANTIC one and it’s a pain in the ass to move from job to job) and hopefully my next show has a desk big enough for my desk.

Get my teeth cleaned

Nope.

Floss every day

Yup. I’m so sick of flossing.

Eat vegetables one time a week (5/52)

I did pretty well with this, but honestly, there are days where I don’t touch a single vegetable. That’s so sad.

Break phone addiction (phone off at 10pm at night and away when I’m not taking pictures or checking email at home)

Actually pretty great at this, this week. I mean, it helps that every time I step onto Facebook or Twitter I’m assaulted by some new horror our President has wrought. It’s like a shock collar.

Get acupuncture 5 times (0/5)

This week! YAY!

Go on 10 dates with Seth (2/10)

Nothing this week.

Go away without the kids with Seth

We were here. Together. Not away.

100 acts of resistance (14/100)

So, this year so far I’ve:

  1. Marched in the Women’s March in LA
  2. Donated money to an artist creating resistance artwork
  3. Called my Congressman, Ted Lieu, to thank him for boycotting the election
  4. Signed up for Swing Left to volunteer for CA-25 get out the vote activities

Week 4 of 52

This was a tough week. In Trump’s first week as President I felt like I was constantly scrambling to keep up with the horror he’d wrought. Most notably the removal of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs from the National Security Council and at the same time adding Bannon. Politics have no place in National Security. The other thing that occupied a lot of brain space was the travel ban on seven Muslim countries, leaving refugees, green card holders and those with visas stranded in custody in airports. Some children separated from their mothers, others without food for hours. This is not the America I grew up with. I’m disgusted and sad and exhausted. It’s only been 9 days.

It feels a little weird to write about my silly goals, but normalcy at home is important.

Read to the boys every day.

I missed two nights this week, work has been intense and I got home late two days in a row. The book we read most this week was How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight? It’s a short one and I’ve needed some short ones lately.

Read 25 books (3/25) (not related to above)

I finished The Road last night. That is certainly not helping my mood. Christ, what a bleak and disturbing read.

Reduce debt to 45% of credit available (the amount of debt I’m carrying is my biggest stressor)

I am just happy I’m able to make my payments on time right now. I did a new debt reduction plan with my USAA membership and it seems like I’ll be able to take some big bites once I get through my week of unemployment.

30 days of face care in a row (29/30)

Still washing my face every night! Still using this fancy face cream.

Get a mammogram

I had to cancel my OBGYN appointment because of work stuff, but I’m going to reschedule for the week I’m off.

Go to the gym 30 times (1/30)

Oh god, this is so embarrassing. Not a single trip. And also not a single day breaking 10k steps. Ugh.

15 minutes of standing for every hour sitting at work

I only stood one day last week. Damn.

Get my teeth cleaned

Nope.

Floss every day

Yup. I’m so sick of flossing.

Eat vegetables one time a week (4/52)

I only managed to eat veggies 3 of the 7 days. I ran out of spinach so my smoothies were lacking veg. Not this week.

Break phone addiction (phone off at 10pm at night and away when I’m not taking pictures or checking email at home)

I had to step off twitter today because my mood seems to be plummeting rapidly. It was stressful being away from social media, but I’m hoping I can stay off it again tomorrow.

Get acupuncture 5 times (0/5)

I can’t wait until the week I’m off work. I’ll have so many appointments.

Go on 10 dates with Seth (2/10)

Nothing this week.

Go away without the kids with Seth

We were here. Together. Not away.

100 acts of resistance (8/100)

I have renamed this, as the Department of Redundancy Department seemed to think Acts of Active Resistance was a little redundant.

  5. Set up automatic monthly donation to ACLU
  6. Donated money to Yosemite National Park
  7. Faxed Dianne Feinstein’s office as I wasn’t able to get through to her LA or her DC office.
  8. Bought three shirts from Jen Tally, 10% of her profits are going to the National Park Service.

After the Women’s March in LA, yesterday, I’ve decided to add another goal for this year.

Read to the boys every day.

I didn’t miss a night this week. And we read a range of old favorites. This week I pulled out Make Way for Ducklings that we hadn’t read in a while.

Read 25 books (2/25) (not related to above)

I didn’t finish any books, but my sister sent me March by John Lewis and Seth gave me Beautiful Losers and The Day of the Locust for my birthday. Books! Yay!

Reduce debt to 45% of credit available (the amount of debt I’m carrying is my biggest stressor)

We switched me over to being paid a different way to allow me to be considered freelance, therefore being able to be on Seth’s insurance. We have some big medical bills to pay off, a lot that we owe to the boy’s school, and I’m going to be unemployed for a couple of weeks in February before I start my next gig.  Look for this space to remain dire until mid-March. Maybe a little later.

30 days of face care in a row (21/30)

Still washing my face every night! Still using this fancy face cream.

Get a mammogram

I did not, but I did make my annual physical appointment with my OBGYN for the week after next so I should be getting a mammogram referral then.

Go to the gym 30 times (1/30)

I didn’t make it to the gym again this week. I feel like I’ll be able to knock off a few in February when I’m unemployed, and my new gig is RIGHT across the street from a branch of my gym.

15 minutes of standing for every hour sitting at work

I found that if I don’t stand up for the first 2 hours of the day, I’m not really that likely to want to stand up. Ever. That is probably the laziest thing I’ve ever admitted about myself, but there you go.

Get my teeth cleaned

I did not get my teeth cleaned this week.

Floss every day

I did! I flossed every day!

Eat vegetables one time a week (3/52)

I ate vegetables 4 out of 6 days. I can do better, but I did eat them at least one time, so here’s to really easy goals!

Break phone addiction (phone off at 10pm at night and away when I’m not taking pictures or checking email at home)

Haha. Well, going to the Women’s March in LA has me glued to my phone. I have LOVED seeing everyone’s photos and reading about their experiences. I am going to try to go on a social media black out next week.

Get acupuncture 5 times (0/5)

I made an appointment, but I just realized I need to change that appointment because of all of these school meetings I have this coming week for the charter schools we’ve applied to. UGH.

Go on 10 dates with Seth (2/10)

After tonight, I’ll have gone on 2/10.

Go away without the kids with Seth

We were here. Together. Not away.

100 acts of active resistance (4/100)

This is my new one! I am going to broadly define my “acts of active resistance” to participating in marches, donating money to causes, calling/communicating my Congressman and Senators, and participating in ‘get out the vote’ activities in the CA-25 (the closest Republican controlled district to me that we’re going to swing left in 2018) and anything else I think can be qualified as resisting this new administrations policies that do not align with the vision I have for a country I want to raise my children in.

Week 2 of 52

I had fun doing this last week, so here I am again.

Read to the boys every day.

I missed two nights, one because I got home late and just wanted to get them to bed, and the other because I went to dinner with a friend and while they were awake (AT 10:55PM, AHEM) they were in bed and I wasn’t about to turn on the lights and start reading. Their favorite this week is maybe a tie between Inside Your Outside and The Polar Express.

Read 25 books (not related to above)

I finished The Rose & the Dagger. If you have teen girls, they will love this series. It’s a re-telling of 1,001 Nights and this is the sequel to The Wrath & the Dawn. It is cheesy YA fiction, but I cried at the end.

Reduce debt to 45% of credit available (the amount of debt I’m carrying is my biggest stressor)

Oof. I don’t want to talk about this right now.

30 days of face care in a row

Still washing my face every night! Still using this fancy face cream.

Get a mammogram

I did not.

Go to the gym 30 times

I didn’t make it to the gym this week. I have high hopes for the coming week, however. 1/30

15 minutes of standing for every hour sitting at work

I didn’t manage 2 hours and 15 minutes every day, but I did use my standing desk every day. I’m hoping to build up to longer stands this week.

Get my teeth cleaned

I did not get my teeth cleaned this week.

Floss every day

I did! I flossed every day!

Eat vegetables one time a week

I ate vegetables EVERY DAMN DAY this week.  2/52

Break phone addiction (phone off at 10pm at night and away when I’m not taking pictures or checking email at home)

Still not doing fantastic at this, but I did manage to stay off my phone for a lot of the day this weekend, which is great progress.

Get acupuncture 5 times

Damnit, I forgot to make an appointment, I want to make one. So writing a note in my bullet journal as soon as I’m done with this update.

Go on 10 dates with Seth

Nothing new here, but we have dinner reservations next weekend for my birthday. So yay! 1/10

Go away without the kids with Seth

We were here. Together. Not away.
